Spencer couldn’t keep his eyes off them. No matter how hard he tried to focus on what the others were saying, his eyes were glued to the woman on the grass playing with his daughter.

It’s like he was living in a dream.

As their laughter echoed through the park, his heart skipped another beat. His dad was right.

“What are you waiting for, Spence?”

His dad’s voice brought his attention back to the group. “Huh?”

Randal shook his head. “Boy, I swear sometimes it would be easier to slap you upside the head.” Randal stared at him. “Better yet…” He smacked Spencer on the back of his skull.

“What the hell?”

“Stop pussyfooting around staring at them wishing you were part of it, and go.”

He wanted to. More than anything Spencer wanted to. He wanted Ellie, and the more he thought about it the more he couldn’t fight it.

But she was Belle’s teacher.

That alone should make him stop. Then why hadn’t it? Why was Ellie all he thought about?

“Wow, you can actually see the gears turning in his head.” Dean laughed as Shannon nodded at him.

“I love him, but sometimes he lets his brain do all the thinking instead of going for it.”

“Most men do,” Shannon added.

With an irritated growl, Spencer turned back to the field watching as Ellie and Belle played and laughed.

His heart did that thing again.

You know what? Screw it. He could deal with the fact she was Belle’s teacher later.

He wanted Ellie Ryan and nothing was going to stop him. Spencer took off running toward the field.

“Took you long enough!”
